Ready, Set, Puppy! How to Set Up Your Home for Your Bernedoodle’s Arrival

Welcoming a Bernedoodle puppy into your life is a joyful, exciting adventure—but it also comes with its fair share of planning. At Bernedoodledo, we’ve helped many families prepare for puppyhood, and we know the first few days can make all the difference.

To help you feel confident and ready, we’re focusing today on one of the most important pieces of the puzzle: setting up your home for your Bernedoodle puppy.

Why a Puppy-Ready Home Matters

Think of your home as a launchpad for your pup’s learning, confidence, and comfort. A well-prepared space doesn’t just make your life easier—it gives your Bernedoodle a smooth, stress-free start.

So, let’s walk through the must-do steps to transform your home into a safe, cozy puppy paradise!

Step 1: Create a Safe Puppy Zone

Before your puppy’s paws ever touch the floor, choose a designated space just for them. This can be a small room, a sectioned-off area in your living space, or a puppy playpen setup.

Your puppy zone should include:

  • A crate with comfy bedding (great for naps + crate training)

  • Toys for chewing, playing, and learning

  • A spill-proof water bowl

  • Easy-to-clean flooring (pee pads optional during house training)

This space becomes their safe spot—somewhere to rest, decompress, and gradually explore from.

Step 2: Puppy-Proof Like a Pro

Puppies explore with their noses and mouths, so it’s time to channel your inner detective.

Here’s what to look for:

  • Hide cleaning supplies, medications, and anything toxic

  • Secure loose wires and cords

  • Store shoes and anything chewable off the floor

  • Move or remove toxic houseplants

Pro tip: Get down on the floor at puppy-eye level—you’ll be surprised what you find!

Step 3: Stock the Essentials

Your new Bernedoodle will need a few key items from day one. Here's a quick starter list:

  • Food & water bowls

  • Puppy food (ask your breeder what they’re currently eating)

  • Chews and teething toys

  • Collar, ID tag & leash

  • Enzyme cleaner (accidents happen!)

  • Grooming tools (brush, comb, puppy-safe shampoo)

Keep It Simple (and Cozy)

You don’t need a Pinterest-perfect setup—just a thoughtful, loving one. The goal is to make your Bernedoodle feel safe, secure, and part of the family from the very start.

So fluff that bed, scatter those toys, and get your camera ready—your puppy adventure is about to begin, and we can’t wait to follow along.
