The first few weeks of a puppy’s life are magical—and a little miraculous! At 2-3 weeks old, puppies are just starting to open their eyes, explore their tiny world, and show the early hints of the personalities we know and love. If you’ve been following our social media lately, you’ve already seen some sneak peeks of our Nakita + George litter—and we thought it was the perfect time to share what’s happening in these precious early weeks.
1. Eyes Opening and Early Senses
Around 2 weeks, puppies begin to open their eyes and start experiencing the world visually for the first time. Their sense of hearing also develops, which means tiny ears perk up at new sounds. This is when they start noticing their siblings and the environment around them—sniffing, sniffing, sniffing!
Fun Fact: Social media followers have loved seeing Nose Marie exploring her blanket and peeking at the world for the first time—these little curious noses are already hard at work!
2. Wobbly Steps and Tiny Explorers
By 3 weeks, puppies begin crawling, wobbling, and even taking tentative steps. Their coordination is developing, and play between siblings starts to emerge. This is a critical stage for early socialization—learning gentle interactions and communication skills with littermates.
Highlight from our recent posts: Our followers got a peek at playful little paw swipes, tiny sniffing adventures, and early signs of confident personalities forming.
3. Personality Shines Through
Even at just a few weeks old, puppies show early hints of their personalities. Some are curious and adventurous, others snuggly and calm, and some are a mix of both. Documenting these early behaviors helps us match families with the puppy that fits their home best.
4. Why These Weeks Matter for Future Growth
These early weeks are crucial for:
Sensory development: sight, hearing, smell
Social skills: learning to play and communicate
Bonding: developing early attachments with littermates and humans
This stage sets the foundation for a happy, healthy, and confident Bernedoodle.
